"Artist residencies allow the time for dialogue and create connections that contribute to the future.." The residency is an opportunity for artists, designers, theorists, writers and curators to undertake a period of focused work at the HMC. An important part of the creative process is taking time for renewal. Whether you are ready to explore a life-long passion, looking for inspiration or eager to take on a new challenge, HMC has a program designed to help you develop your creativity while experiencing another culture. Join us this summer to see the world, invest in your talent and get inspired. Budapest one of the world's most beautiful and most vibrant cultural hubs, is a city steeped in history and a favored destination of many travelers. Each residency includes accommodation, working area, and access to all resources including WIFI, workshops, artist talk, gallery walk, field trip.  In selected instances, the residency may also include some basic materials stipend. Partnerships are vital to the way in which we work and we were delighted to be able to establish a partnership with a Print Studio and the BookArt Association. Artists producing innovative work in book arts, electronic/digital media (video, sound, animation, etc.), installation art, social practice, photography, and printmaking are encouraged to apply. Maximum 6 pages.   Further Information and Costs: Applications accepted on basis of availability and quality of work.
 Please apply for funding in your home country for financial assistance to participate in our programs. There are also many private foundations that can assist with possible funding. If we can be of any help to assist you in your application please let us know.   The residency is located in Budapest. The residence offers shared room/bath as living quarters, and working area, exhibition, ArtistTalk, field trip, gallery tour are included in the cost.  It's unique, is taking place inside the artist's own home. There is a cost to attend the residency of the summer residencies cost: $1250/person or Euro 950.  The winter residency cost $950 or Euro 700. Longer or shorter stays can be arranged.  Artists are expected to pay all travel expenses, personal costs, visa (if necessary), insurance, and to supply artist materials for their use during the residency.   We can provide basic materials and tools.
Artists are expected to give at least one informal public audio-visual presentation about their work during their residency and to leave one piece of work made during the residency as a donation to the HMC. The HMC will exhibit the artworks several times. Successful applicant wish to be accompanied by family members or an assistant, it is necessary to consult with HMC beforehand.  Non-artist guests accompanying residents are welcome. Ask the board for rates and availability. Exhibitions are arranged at a professional gallery in August, 2014.   The Hungarian Multicultural Center, Inc.® (HMC), 501(c)(3), Dallas, TX/Budapest, Hungary based non-profit organization.  The HMC dedicated to inspiring, connecting, exhibiting, and promoting artists.  The HMC invites interested visual artists, writers, performers  to submit application for its residency program in Budapest, Hungary.  The residencies offer participants to interact with other artists representing a variety of cultures and backgrounds.  Residents participate in weekly activities programmed by HMC such as artist studio visits, tours to exhibition spaces, networking events and workshop.   The Artist in Residence Program is open to all artists who wish to work independently on their own projects. Artists may use the residency to accomplish a specific project or to work in a creative and supportive atmosphere alongside other international artists. Resident artists are able to exchange ideas and experiences through presentations and informal discussion. Meals are the responsibility of the artists, either individually or communally. There are many shops, supermarkets and a wonderful daily farmers market all within 3 minutes walking distance. Also, there is an opportunity for meals on wheels!

We also ask you not to send anything to HMC in a parcel by mail because of excessive customs fees and other difficulties. Please, bring everything with you in your luggage! Accommodation prices are per person. This includes bed linen, towels, use of fully equipped kitchens, lounges, internet, etc. At the end of your stay we expect you to leave your apartment as clean as it was when you arrived. Upon acceptance of your application you will pay $100 deposit of the accommodation charge to reserve your place. End of your residency we are asking a Residency Evaluation submitted by you (1page) detailing your experience at Budapest and what you were able to accomplish during your residency regarding your specific Art project.
